The Skally Line presents a deeply Minnesotan show on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at 4:00 p.m.: A concert followed by a hot dish contest that we’re calling “Hot Dish Sunday.”

The Skally Line features the talents of Fred Keller on mandolins and Bill Cagley on guitar. Fred and Bill have over 70 years of roots music experience combined. For over ten years, The Skally Line has shared the stories and songs of Minnesota at libraries, town festivals, rendezvous, history centers, and schools.

The Skally Line picks and stomps its way through a lot of old music (early country, string band blues, Tin Pan Alley, and Appalachian folk) but brings it all home by sharing stories and singing original songs based on quirky corners of Minnesota history. Fred finds history fascinating so he finds strange and interesting stories about Minnesota and then writes the stories into songs. A great deal of it comes right from Pine County.

Hot Dish Sunday will be held at the 210 Gallery and Art Center in Sandstone, Minnesota, Fred’s home town. The event kicks off at 4:00 p.m. with about an hour’s worth of stories and songs. Then around 5:00 p.m., we’ll sample as many as eight different kinds of Hot Dish supplied by volunteers.

After stuffing ourselves, we’ll vote on the winner and prizes will be awarded! Dessert and beverages will
also be provided by the 210 Gallery and Art Center.

This show is brought to you by a grant from the East Central Regional Arts Council thanks to the legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. That means it will not cost a penny to get in the door; admission is free.
