From Page to Stage: A Writing Workshop for Students with Laurie Allmann
PO Box 212
Taylors Falls, Minnesota 55084
Join poet and essayist Laurie Allmann to create stories and poems designed for spoken word performance. In the first part of the workshop, Laurie will give you writing prompts to help you create your composition, then we’ll have an informal “open mic” featuring your own writings and selected readings of works by other regional writers. Learn to play with rhythm, pace and voice to engage an audience. You'll fine tune a unique style that works for you. No pressure, just fun! About the instructor: Author/poet Laurie Allmann is currently an Artist in Residence with the nonprofit North Woods and Waters of the St. Croix Heritage Area. She received a Minnesota Book Award for her creative nonfiction book, Far from Tame: Reflections from the Heart of a Continent (University of MN Press) and a Gold Medal from the Midwest Independent Publisher’s Association for her recent book of poetry, An Hour from Now (Nodin Press). Her writings have been featured in public radio commentaries on MPR and KFAI, published in numerous anthologies, and presented in spoken-word performances. She has been a naturalist and youth educator, a course instructor for The Loft Literary Center, and is a founding co-editor of Agate magazine. She has a special interest in place-based writing that is informed and inspired by the natural world. This program is provided by the North Woods and Waters of the St. Croix Heritage Area (NWW), in partnership with the East Central Regional Library This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the East Central Regional Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
