Pine City Arts Council Featuring Art by Cindy Fuerstenberg and Michael Bremer
May Gallery: Nature's Many Layers, by Cindy Fuerstenberg and Michael Bremer
Please join us for our May Gallery Opening featuring two phenomenal artists: Cindy Fuerstenberg and Michael Bremer.
As a self-taught artist, Cindy Fuerstenberg started her art practice seriously 11 years ago. She’ll be featuring fiber mixed media in this gallery. Cindy’s art is inspired by her daily communes with nature.
“I love learning about animals, plants, and insects, but especially trees and the relationship they all have to each other, the earth, and humans.” Through her art, Cindy hopes to bring an awareness to the natural world. “At this moment, I am here and I have a chance to share my art with you, to tell you a story or the ‘why’. Perhaps that will give rise to the comfort found in nature's voice, bring you an understanding of some small mystery in science or environmental awareness. Maybe it will prompt empathy, action, or a realization that helps you to heal. I hope that it will.”
Cindy’s art creates dimensional layers of fiber and textiles bringing a fresh freedom from realism. “I use organic processes to alter natural materials which are then further composed into the work. The subject matter connects us to the environment and encourages us to examine our relationship to nature. It speaks to the role that landscapes and organisms have in creating meaning in our lives. There are sacred stories among the scientific facts, and in those stories, about what people have done, lies hope for our future if we listen.” Cindy’s art has been sold and shown throughout the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota area. She currently works out of her studio in Pine City, Minnesota, where she resides with her husband and three dogs.
Michael Bremer has been painting since 2020. He will be presenting oil paintings in this month’s gallery. Michael’s art is mostly inspired by nature and history. He enjoys painting nature landscapes, renaissance portraits, and anime. “I hope people will be inspired to give painting or creating something a try.” He wants people to know that anyone can learn how to paint when viewing his work. “For years, I believed that I couldn't paint because I didn't have the talent. While I was in my senior year of college, COVID hit, and I stumbled upon some Bob Ross videos, which gave me the courage to try and learn while we had time.”
The gallery opens on Friday, May 1st, where the public is invited to an artists’ reception from 4-7 p.m.. Wine, beer and light appetizers will be served. The gallery will continue throughout the month of May. Regular gallery hours are 10 am-5 pm, Thursday-Sunday. The gallery is free and open to the public. This event is sponsored by The Flower Box. Be sure to check out their selection of flowers for Mother's Day!
