Writing Your Life: A Generative Memoir Writing Workshop When you talk about your life, do people say you should write a book? Now's the time to start. No matter where you are in your memoir-writing journey, this hands-on writing workshop will help you start, develop, or revise a memoir-in-process. We'll work through a series of writing prompts, exploring ways to get unstuck, using specifics and sensory imagery, and scene building. In this class you'll be generating your own work, make sure to bring a paper and pen. Cost: Pay what you can- there is a suggested donation of $50, however the instructor wants everyone to be able to participate in this program, and cost should not be a barrier Instructor: Dr. Suzanne Roberts, (she/her) is the author of Animal Bodies: On Death, Desire, and Other Difficulties (Longlisted for the PEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogel Award for the Art of the Essay), Bad Tourist: Misadventures in Love and Travel (North American Travel Journalists Association Bronze Award for a Travel Book), and Almost Somewhere: Twenty-Eight Days on the John Muir Trail (Winner of the National Outdoor Book Award), four collections of poems, and a creative writing craft book 52 Writing Prompts: Inspiration for the Creative Writer (forthcoming October 1, 2026 from the University of Nebraska Press). Named "The Next Great Travel Writer" by National Geographic's Traveler, Suzanne's work has been listed as notable in Best American Essays and included in The Best Women's Travel Writing. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Ploughshares, CNN, National Geographic Traveler, Creative Nonfiction, Brevity, The Rumpus, Hippocampus, The Normal School, River Teeth, The Fourth Genre, and elsewhere.
