Pine County musician Steve Hirsh brings special guests Dave Sewelson and gabby fluke-mogul to Minneapolsi for one performance. Denizens of New York's downtown music scene Dave Sewelson and gabby fluke-mogul will join Steve, George Cartwright and Anthiny Cox for an evening of fireworks, pathos, interstellar explorations, and soul transformation. The night will begin with the music of Nathan Hanson and Davu Seru. Seriously - a night not to be missed. gabby fluke-mogul is a New York based violinist, improviser, composer, & educator. fluke-mogul exists within the threads of improvisation, free jazz, noise, & experimental music. Their playing has been described as “embodied, visceral, & virtuosic" & "the most striking sound in improvised music in years..." gabby is humbled to have collaborated with Nava Dunkelman, Joanna Mattrey, Fred Frith, Daniel Carter, Ava Mendoza, Luke Stewart, Zeena Parkins, & Pauline Oliveros among many other musicians, poets, dancers, & visual artists. fluke-mogul was a 2021/2022 Roulette Intermedium Commissioned Artist. gfm holds a MFA in Music Performance & Literature from Mills College, a BA in Music & Early Childhood Education from Hampshire College, & a Deep Listening certificate from The Center for Deep Listening at Rensselaer. Dave Sewelson is a baritone saxophone specialist, he arrived in New York City in the summer of 1977, settled in the East Village becoming a stalwart of the downtown scene, played in many bands of the area, probably best known as a founding member of the Microscopic Septet and lifetime member of William Parker’s Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra. Steve Hirsh plays improvised music on the drumset. He's been leading improvising ensembles around Minnesota's Twin Cities for years. He has recently become a regular visitor to New York City's downtown scene, as well as performing in a variety of locales and appearing on multiple releases on the Mahakala Music label. Anthony Cox’s career has spanned over 30 years encompassing music education, composition, and performance that include an extensive list of collaborations, performances, and recordings with notable artists in the field of jazz. The list includes Sam Rivers, Joe Lovano, Geri Allen, Kenny Wheeler, Ed Blackwell, Billy Higgins, John Scofield, The NDR Big Band, Dino Saluzzi, and Henry Threadgill. George Cartwright is a Minnesota-based composer, performer, bandleader, producer and musical collaborator, with a prolific career spanning over 30 years. George formed a trio with Michael Lytle and David Moss, known as Meltable Snaps It. He also formed his band Curlew with bassist Bill Laswell, which went on to record 12 CDs and LPs under the Cuneiform Records label. George moved to his current home base in the Twin Cities in 1999, where he found a tremendous wealth of like-minded musicians, with whom he continues to collaborate and record to this day.
